Education

A list of educational and childcare facilities and support according to schooling level. Childcare is quite limited in the district, see pre-school for more information.

Preschool and childcare placements are very limited in this district. In fact, it's limited in most regional locations. This does present challenges for working parents.

In 2022 a study by the Mitchell Institute found that childcare access in the regional electorate of Grey was the worst in the state of South Australia. In response to this, 23 Council's (including District Council of Mount Remarkable) from the states north and west came together with the support of LGA South Australia to create the Regional Childcare Dessert Advocacy Project (RCDAP).

The aim of the RCDAP project is to gain awareness of the impacts that the severe lack of childcare has on the region, from the effects on parents ability to work and need to travel long distances, to the effects on child development.

The intention is to secure more state and federal government investment in childcare services in Grey to help parents be a part of the thriving South Australian economy.

There is a lack of further education in regional SA. This is due to the region having a "low skills equilibrium" which means there is a low supply and low demand for skills.

To find out more about this, the Literature Review - Yorke and Mid North Region August 2017 explains in depth in its report about training and employment in the region.

Depending on what you want to do with your future, unfortunately, online learning or relocation may be the only options available to you. However, while limited, there are definitely some opportunities available.
