Welcome to the District…

The District Council of Mount Remarkable encompasses a spectacular and diverse piece of the Southern Flinders Ranges; from Port Germein which hosts the historic Port Germein Jetty, to Melrose, the oldest town in the Flinders Ranges, situated at the foothills of the impressive Mount Remarkable.

The scenic Wirrabara Forest, the Bluff Lookout, the historic town of Wilmington with Alligator Gorge only a short drive away and Booleroo Centre, our service hub, all make for a truly remarkable experience.

The Council Office is open from 9.00am – 5.00pm Monday to Friday and is located at 3 Stuart Street, Melrose.

Rail Trails

If two wheeled fun is more your scene, the District Council Mount Remarkable has a myriad of mountain bike and rail trails to suit all abilities.

Considered a cycling hub, the area attracts riders from all over Australia.

Bring your own bike or hire from Melrose. Then, take a relaxing ride along any of the well marked trails linking towns whilst enjoying the scenery and wildlife.

The “Mount Remarkable” Rail Trail is a great place to start your cycling journey with trails linking Wilmington, Melrose, Booleroo Centre, Wirrabara and Stone Hut. A distance in total of 70km. (Wilmington to Melrose 23km, Melrose to Booleroo Centre 16km, Booleroo Centre to Wirrabara 23km and Wirrabara to Stone Hut 8km).

The trails form part of a 125km trail from Wilmington to Yacka which utilises an unused rail corridor.

Request for Service

Council’s ‘Request for Service’ online form enables members of the public to lodge a customer request for service (Request) that is identified within Council's jurisdiction. (Request for Service Policy)

What is a Request for Service? 

A Request for Service is an application to have Council or its representative take some form of action to provide a Council service.

A Request can be submitted electronically by completing the below form and will be forwarded to the appropriate Officer for assessment and action as considered necessary. A response will be provided within [10] business days advising of Council’s intentions in regard to the request.  To lodge a Request please complete the Customer Service Request Form.

A Request for Service is not a complaint.

A Complaint is an expression of dissatisfaction with a service which has, or should have, been received.(Complaints Handling Policy)

To lodge a Complaint please complete the Complaints Form. A Request for Service must not include a Complaint.
