Port Germein Jetty Project – Project Overview
The Port Germein Jetty is a significant heritage and tourism asset in the District Council of Mount Remarkable. Following storm events and ongoing wear over time, a staged program of investigation, design and planning is underway to address storm damage repairs and long term general deterioration of the jetty.
The project is being delivered in stages to prioritise urgent storm related repairs while also planning for broader rehabilitation works to extend the life of the jetty.
The Jetty is the property of the State Government of South Australia. The Council has a 25 year management agreement for the jetty which expires next year on the 25 June 2027.
Council will provide updates on major milestones, approvals and construction timing as the project progresses. Updates will be published on this page and through Council communication channels.
Project Scope
The project is divided into two principal work streams:
-
Storm Damage Repairs
- Estimated construction cost: approximately $1.5 million (ex GST)
- Estimate prepared by: Rider Levett Bucknall (April 2026)
- Purpose: support insurance and funding negotiations and enable construction delivery
-
General Deterioration Repairs
- Estimated construction cost: approximately $9.99 million (ex GST)
- Estimate prepared by: Rider Levett Bucknall (April 2026)
- Purpose: long term planning and funding discussions with State Government
Storm damage works focus on restoring sections of the jetty that were damaged during recent severe weather events. These works are designed to repair the jetty on a like for like basis, targeting damaged decking, structural timber members, kerbs, balustrades and associated elements.
General deterioration works address the broader, long term condition of the jetty and include replacement of deteriorated timber members and piles, installation of new steel piles where required, and associated structural rehabilitation.

- Independent cost estimates for both storm damage and general deterioration have been finalised.
- Preliminary structural designs for storm damage repairs have been submitted to the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) and are currently under review.
- The project timeline is a live document and will be updated as the project progresses.
