Port Germein Tide Clock

Facility type: Tourist Attraction

This Tide Clock, c.1800, was originally placed near the Port Pirie shipping channel at Cockle Spit. It remained there for many years on a stand called a "Dolphin".  The stand was constructed of Sugar Gum which is a timber local to the area and the platform was made of Red River Gum. It was backlit with gas or oil lamps. It is one of only two clock-faced tide gauges believed to have existed. The only other was though to have existed on the Tamar River in Tasmania.

The Tide Clock was removed in 1989 when new technology made it obsolete. It was restored in 2013 and relocated to it's current position.

Further restoration works took place in June 2023 which involved blasting, the application of marine coatings, and the application of a high build epoxy and polyurethane topcoat.
